In the second round of Ultimate Kho Kho 2023 on Sunday, December 24, the Mumbai Khiladi were defeated 46–44 by the Telugu Yoddhas, the 2022 Ultimate Kho Kho runners-up. It was an entertaining encounter. The competition was held in Cuttack at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium.
After winning the toss, team captain Aniket Pote decided to go for the kill first. The Mumbai team was up in the game at the end of the first inning, 26–24.
The players attempted to score during defence but were unsuccessful, allowing the Yoddhas to take a 46-26 lead. The players scored twenty points in the third turn. The Mumbai club needed to score 21 points after the fourth turn in order to win the match or split the points with the Season 1 runners-up.
Under Aniket Pote’s leadership, the group fought valiantly to close the Yoddhas’ lead. However, they ultimately fell short by a narrow margin, resulting in a painful defeat. The athletes are now ranked third in the Ultimate Kho Kho 2023 points standings as a result.
However, with three points from a single game, the Telugu Yoddhas are in second place. At the top of the points chart are the reigning champions, the Odisha Jaguars, who emerged victorious in the opening game of the day.
Remarkably, neither team was able to record a dream run as they struggled to score in two defence attempts. As a result, attacks accounted for every point for both sides (Skydive Point, Pole Dive Point, and Touch Point). In the book of the referee, not a single player from either side was listed.
